Effective Enough To Be Dangerous?

I have recently been thinking that biometric software would be good to use to protect information and property from thieves, as it is harder to get around than passwords. However, thinking about that also brought to mind various spy movies in which people are kidnapped and forced to let people in, or in which body parts were cut off and used to get past biometric security systems, and this is worse than having things stolen, because stolen things are easier to replace than lives and body parts. There needs to be some way to avoid this in order to make biometrics a perfect security system.
