California Condors Survive the Fires
Since the fires this summer really hurt the wildlife society’s condor facility, they are very pleased to report that out of 25 California Condors that have been released into the wild, since 1997, are all present and accounted for. That is such fantastic news. It means the condors have truly learned to survive independently and collectively. It should not really surprise us though. This species of birds is endangered now due to lead poisoning and habitat loss and a diminishing gene pool. However it is an ancient species and has been able to cope with environmental changes before this.
