Such Well Behaved Children

Christmas is the best time of year. Everyone in the family gets along and no one complains, no matter how badly I burn dinner. They sing together, go shopping together, share their toys, give each other the biggest pieces of dessert, and always do extra chores. Why is this? Is there an extra dose of good cheer around the Christmas season? Yes, but that’s not why they behave. Do they feel guilty for fighting when there are boys and girls all around the world who will not receive presents or food during the holidays? Not really. Are they worried that they will get coal instead of presents in their stockings? No, they learned long ago that I didn’t like coal in the house because it was messy. Why then do they behave so incredibly well? Because last year I went out and purchased three reams of printable Christmas paper for our family Christmas newsletter, and they are terrified of the things I will write about them should they misbehave!
