Door Panic Hardware: Security in a “Crash”
A panic bar (aka crash bar) is a device for unlatching doors, consisting of a metal bar horizontally fixed to the front of the door and hinged. Once you push it, it unlatches and opens the door at the same time. In many countries, their building codes actually require door panic hardware on all fire and emergency exits. Their named as such because of the fact that they can be operated by "crashing" into them. The alternate term "panic bar" implies the same definition. But Crash bars also can refer to the motorcycle’s engine guards. They primarily protect the bike’s engine and body panels during slides or tipovers. They also serve as a mount point for accessories like highway pegs, lights and on police motorcycles-sirens, cameras and radar guns.
